Are you sure these are night terrors and not seizures? The fact that she almost bit her fingers off makes me think it may be seizures.
Night terrors sometimes come on schedule... between the first and second hour after the child falls asleep. Try and figure out when it is for her then try waking her up about 15 minutes before this and soothing her back to sleep.
Also make sure she's getting enough sleep as sleep deprivation can cause them. At nineteen months a child should be getting a total of 13 and a half to 15 hours of sleep daily. 11 hours at night and 1-2 (about 2 and a half hour) naps during the day.
When you are trying to calm her down, keep your voices soft and talk slowly. Keep lights off or very dim and move slowly.
There are also drug treatments available, but it's not recommended unless the terrors are caused by an underlying medical problem. Talk to a doctor about this and seizures. |
