did your baby wake earlier/more while learning to walk?

we've struggled for quite some time with ruby's early rising -- she definitely wakes before she is fully rested. we have been keeping her in her crib until 6 as well as putting her to bed an hour later, and it was starting to work. she is 13 months old and is now walking -- almost. she is still in the practice stage. could this be why we have hit a wall with the morning sleep? i have read that these milestones lead to early waking, and i am wondering if this has been the experience for other moms???
also, she has been waking once during the night, usually about two hours after she goes to bed. at both the night waking and the morning, she cries, cries, cries for a bit. sound normal? consistent with the milestone?
