Try making yourself really tired, working out, run around like crazy and then wind down for bed. Make sure the only thing you do in bed is sleep and sex. You shouldn't watch TV in bed. Sometimes I use benadryl, nyquill or tylenol PM as a last resort as I hate taking drugs. They also make something called calme forte that you can get at most health food stores.

You might have to take an over the counter sleep aid just before bedtime for a few nights just until you get back on schedule. You may need to turn the computer off at a certain time. I've stayed up all night on the computer and couldn't sleep for 3 days.

limit calleine intake to stop early in day. Avoid calleine at night or foods containing caffeine such that contain chocolate, cola any carbonated beverages, coffee, tea or any alcohol or CNS stimulants in the evening.Set a daily routine to follow consisting routine sleep times. Avoid naping in afternoon. Get up at same time daily .Can read for 30 min out of bed if can't sleep. If severe disorder barbituates are perscribed but not a first choice because of addiction and abuse potential.Shift work can also cause insomnia if always rotating with no set pattern. Not a problem unless isndividual wants to change and cannot. Then is called a sleep disorder taht is treated by a doctor. Reducing stress and relaxation techniques can also aid if not severe.

As far as I'm concerned I've tried all the things suggested above and nothing works. Personally I have always refused to take prescription pills so I used to resort to herbal aids over the counter. They no longer help, they tend to be for mild-moderate insomnia. I think the key is relaxation, personally I haven't managed to relax myself enough to be able to go to sleep but if u could manage to find something, anything that will relax u at night then that's the key.
