Default What are the effects of sleep deprivation on one's

body? In the last 4 days I have slept a total of 10 hours. I have heard it's not good for your body but what really happens to your body when you don't sleep enough? Not asking for ways to sleep. I could go to bed if I wanted. I don't want to sleep right now. Just curious what might be happening as a result.

This has happened to me several times in my life. I stay awake and do& do till I drop. When you sleep your body repairs and rejuvinate its self. Try something like Tyl. Nightime its over the counter and may help you to sleep. Talk to your Doctor there may be a deeper reason.

Many things can happen if you are sleep deprived. For one, your body needs sleep to help repair itself. Without sleep you are more prone to illnesses as your immune system is not fully functioning at 100%. In order to fight off colds and other "bugs" you need to sleep for your body to be functional. Lack of sleep will cause decreased concentration and your thought process is greatly affected by this. These becoming highly susceptable to accidents. Most accidents caused by drivers falling asleep at the wheel or not having very quick reflexes to avoid an accident are caused by people who are chronically are sleep deprived. To sum it up, sleep is the best remedy and a need for your body.S.P, RN
