Take a warm shower, or maybe try to read a book.

if your spending more than a week of sleepless nights, then you should go to the doctor and have him or her prescribe you some. sleeping pills aren't to be taken light because they have many side effects. instead try these tips for a better night's rest. 1- sleep and wake up at a regular patternen, 2- take a warm bath or shower before you sleep, 3- if unable to fall asleep, then go to a dark quiet room and sit there for 15 min.

Try drinking a small glass of warmed milk/or cocoa, the enzymes that are released, has been known to help induce sleep. Take a couple of tylenol to help relax with the milk.Make sure your bedding is fresh and use a lavender scent in either the rinse cycle or just lavender spray lighly on the bedding. Warm bathes or soothing sounds .like of the ocean you can get with a sound machine.,helps too. You might even try a new pillow. You need to relax your mind from the worries of the day with prayer and meditation.Hope you have a good nights sleep!!

Try Melatonin. I have been taking it for years and would not go a night without it. It's a substance in your body that dissipates with age. That's the reason babies sleep so soundly, it's due to an increase in their bodies melatonin level. It is available without a prescription and comes in dosages from 1-3mg and there are many brands to choose from. Any supermarket should have it, and if not then go to GNC or any vitamin and nutrient store. Natrol is a good one. It may take a week or so for your body to acclimate to the melatonin, so if you don't see results right away don't worry. You will definately see results within a week. Good luck.

if it really is insomnia then you need to talk to a doctor. There are non-drug tablets but a professional could help you better. And as you already know Not sleeping is never good. Some people are soothed to sleep by their favorite childhood movie, or any movie for that matter. Or watching a news program maybe? Watch something so incredibly uninteresting to you and Bore yourself to sleep? I don't know if you get cable but the politcal debates on CSPAN are fairly dry and serious looking people making speeches for hours. You might want to try cutting out caffeine. no tea, no soda and see if it helps any. can you nap in the daytime but can't sleep at night or is it impossible even in the day? Perhaps you need to get something off your mind so you can sleep? Have a chat w/ the counselor at school or the best friend who cares most about you....or perhaps a cousin/sister? Yes, they say take a warm shower and before going to bed drink warm milk but I've never tried the milk and a shower is comforting but not enough to put me in such a relaxed state I am asleep soon after. Have you changed anything in your room? is your brain or body retaliating perhaps? Maybe try this on the weekend; moderately exercise or do house chores for a few hours on and off throughout the afternoon, weed the garden, walk around the block, walk your (or someone else's) dog...wear yourself out, so that by the time you are done eating dinner your body will be ready to rest. Please, keep a calendar or diary of how long you haven't been sleeping because it will eventually start affecting your body; your equilibrium, your sense of reality and so on. A professional/doctor will need to know how long it's been. Have you considered maybe you need a new mattress or new pillows? sometimes old items like this can interfere with getting comfortable so people can sleep. I hope you feel better soon and get back to bed.
