Before you get on me for trying to get diagnosed over the Internet I am not. I just want some opinions before I ask my mother take me to the doctor (because I am only 14.) Recently (in last 2 weeks) I have not been able to get to sleep. I have laid in bed for hours. I have tried tv, no tv, music, no music, lights, no lights, everything. I tried to tak a nap after school and laid there for 2 and a half hours and just couldn't go to sleep. It feels like I can't stop thinking. I just have to keep going. What do you think this is? Is it just actue or chronic? Please help me. I have only had about 12 hours of slep in the past 3 days.

Hi Kristine...I'm 34...When I was your age I had the same problems and it made me nuts. It would come and go. And it still comes and goes!! I suggest if it continues or if it's already driving you crazy then get some help. Here is what I have experienced. I never got help. I'm not crazy first of all. The reason I couldn't sleep is my thoughts would race. I was always on the go. They were just episodes though. They would come and go. I have bipolar disorder...a mild case...hypomania...I take medication and it helps. Just something to check out. It just sounds somewhat similar to what I went through....Good luck!

This can be a hormonal problem and from what you describe it currently falls in the acute category. Please see your doctor. He/She may recommend an endocrinologist to look at your hormones to see if that is a contributor.I have problems with insomnia myself. One of my favorite quick remedies is a soak in the bathtub - just about as warm as you can stand it for as long as you can stand it...I sometimes even fall asleep in the tub. When I come to, I do as little as possible, crawl into bed and hope that I conk right back out.

It's only a few weeks, don't worry. Do get some help. It could be anything, and I hope it's something good in your life.I do know my son couldn't sleep at night, but this was for months, and it was teenage depression (sorry). He became less worried once he knew what it was, got involved and stayed with it. Getting involved in good community groups after school is a good alternative. It may be something good, let's hope. I know you're a boy, you can try meditation or yoga, it helps relieve stress.

Definitely sounds like insomnia to me. It's not chronic yet. What I do when I can't get my brain to shut up at night is take some Benadryl. Benadryl is an over the counter anithistaime(controls allergies) the side effects are drowsiness. It quiets me down enough to be able to get to sleep. You need to make sure you are not consuming too much caffiene too close to bed time, and no exercising late in the evening either.Either way you should tell your mom what is going on with you and see what she says. She's probably going to want to observe you for a few nights before she calls the doc.

Dont worry, ur fine.all u have to do is set aside time to sleep, if you cant go to sleep at your regular time, go to sleep earlier. your body will get bored, and take you to sleep.Or, try doing something exhausting before you go to bed.But this will eventually iron itself out.But dont stress about it or ull lose more sleep.i've had this same problem.but ask the doctor in private, ur parents mite think ur......helping your self out when you should be sleeping, nd might not take it seriously...lol. im 14 too.

well there are alot of things your could do to help you sleep. But you should go to the doctor, its really unhealthy to lose alot of sleep. but if you wanna try something you could try exercising during the day ( not right before bed****) but during the day take a long walk... jog in place or on a treadmill for an hour. but I would suggest going to the doctor asap.
