Default Chronic Insomnia HELP!?

II haven't been able to sleep for the longest time. It akes an hour or two just to fall asleep, then I wake up several times in the middle of the night, plus I wake up early and can't fall back asleep.I've tried Lunesta and Ambien CR with no help, after trying the typical Tylenol PM and Advil PM with no success. Melatonin worked for about 2 weeks then stopped. My doc prescribed an anti-depressant which worked for a month or so, then stopped. Then he switched anti-depressants and that has made the problem even worse. I was awake for 72 straight hours, then he suggested benadryl as a supplement. That worked for about a week.I'm exhausted during the day, wide awake at night, however I'm no longer depressed, LOL! :) I guess you've gotta find a positive somewhere!I'm seeing my doc next week - what can I suggest that might help? I wanna do some research.

I am in the same boat. Personally, I have found a couple remedies - 1.) Watch something that requires no thought - like cartoons or home shopping. It slows your mind down so it is not racing through all kinds of scenarios as you lie awake in bed. 2.) If you are 21 - have a small drink before bed. Sometimes a beer or glass of wine can ease the nerves a little.

As someone who has studied aromatherapy & herbalism, I would suggest seeing a herbalist who could prescribe herbs to help you sleep and work on you emotionally as well. It's no wonder your exhausted, the medications would be causing you more stress and not helping you nutritionally. A natural therapist would look at your whole lifestyle to see how best to help you. If you check with ATMS, you'll find a herbalist who's registered with them in your area. That's great that you're no longer depressed! As you can probably guess, I've recently been suffering from insomnia as well - no other reason why i would be awake at this hour!
