...they hold their breath when they sleep ???? its not sleep apnea- its something different- when i sleep i acutally (sometimes not always ) hold my breath for as long as i can- and then slowly let it out-not consciously- im always half asleep when i do this- i find that when i have more coffee/caffeine- i do this more.

Could you possibly have sleep apnea? Check it out with your physician. He or she may refer you for a sleep study to determine what's going on. Sleep apnea can lead to many other physical ailments including heart disease. It can be caused by a number of factors. My daughter had it and she had her tonsils and aednoids removed. This solved her problem. Good luck!

it happened to me for a brief period a few years ago, and when i would wake up -half awake anyways, the first thing id do in breath in, which wouldn't help as i had been holding my breath. I ended up teaching my self breath in and out quickly as i was coming around out of the sleep. Anyways it worked and I don't do it anymore. I smoked alot at that time, tobacco and gange, and that probably didn't help

From my knowledge - I am not a doc it is called Sleep Apnea. You should have a sleep study done. You will never get restful sleep. They can keep you a sleep mask so that you can sleep better. Look it up on the internet for details.
