Default Sleeping Beauty Essay?!?

Ok so i have to write an essay for my mythology class were im supposed to analyse a myth and talk about symbols and metaphors. The best one i have found yet is Sleeping Beauty. First we have to pose a question and do an outline. So far my question is "What role do metaphors and symbols play in the famous myth "Sleeping Beauty?" I need to work on it... can someone help?! plz... its the best i can think of since my friend is half asleep. Can someone help me find a thesis for it?the professor said we could use Sleeping Beauty... so if its good enough for her... its good enough for me. :]Minkan... accutally it does... the spindle she priks her self with is one symbol. I know its gonna be hard.. thats why im asking for help!! :[ thanks though... i have been trying to find one on greek mythology but i couldnt find one that we havent used in class or that is long enough to write an essay on.

Sleeping Beauty isnt reely a myth, it is just a fairytale. A better example of a myth would be....the Loc Nes Monster, Bigfoot, etc etc

Ummm Sleeping Beauty isn't a myth and it doesnt really have any symbols or metaphors. You should do one about a Greek Mythology because there is much more information about it on the internet and books. Also Greek Mythology stories have a really strong metaphors or symbols so that would make it a lot easier!

Fazia R is right , but your teacher will probably accept Sleeping Beauty . It is basically another Cinderella Story . Man gives a woman his prince charming routine by chasing after her for her fantastic looks . Then he saves her from the terrible thing and provides for her for the rest of her life , or at least until her beauty fades . Moral of the story : Let a man see you first thing in the morning during a PMS episode before you accept his proposal . The kiss is the equivent of the putting on the shoe . Both save the princess and are symbolic of sex ( and Love). The prick of the pindle is a symbol of first time sex . The sleeping and the step sisters are equvilent symbols for fear of death and fear of being without a husband . Of you are looking for a real myth you can do it on any of the books of the bible . In fact , you might try googling "Jesus astology" You will see how the myth of astrology connects to the myth of Jesus . The sun was originally thought to be the Top God and the 12 signs were the lesser gods or disciple gods .

PLEASE do not make idiots of yourselves - Sleeping Beauty is not a myth - it is a fairy tale! It was written in the 1697 by Perrault. It is called 'la belle au Bois Dormant' in French, the language it was written in. It was written at Usse chateau - and is a waste of time visiting! My daughter, who loved the film (Okay, I know it is different!) was totally upset - it was a few years ago, but there were tableaux behind glass and were filthy!Anyway, try finding a proper myth! Basically, a myth is a sacred story concerning the origins of the world or how the world and the creatures in it came to have their present form. The active beings in myths are generally gods and heroes. Myths often are said to take place before recorded history begins. So why not look up on the computer some of the Aboriginal myths, so they are different to some of those of Ancient Greece and Rome. I thought of aboriginal stories because I was looking at these last term for my daughter and thought they were great! Unfortunately, the metaphors and similes are up to you!

Actually, Perrault's Sleeping Beauty can be traced back to Giambattista Basile's older version. While he wrote literary fairy tales, his sleeping beauty was not the first.

The oldest sleeping beauty is Brynhild, from Germanic legend (think of Siegfried and also Wagner and the ring cycle).

Briar-Rose a.k.a Sleeping Beauty, was the long awaited, and greatly celebrated Princess whose birth was prophesied by a little green frog. At the royal Christening for Briar-Rose it was the tradition to have a huge feast and invite all of the fairies of the land to come and bestow "gifts" upon the new Princess. There were 13 fairies in all, and all save one would be attending. One, was a recluse who no one had seen in at least 50 years. Infuriated that she had been left out of the celebration, she showed up at the celebration and cursed the Princess with a death- curse on her 15th year. Briar-Rose's saving grace was that one of the good fairies had stayed back and saved her gift. While she could not undo the death gift, she could amend it a bit so that the child would not die, but rather be put into a deep sleep for 100 years, only to be awakened by a King's son.
