As most people know, sleep is an important part of everyones routine. The fact is if you don't get a proper sleep the night before, you will feel drowsy and lack energy the next day. 

To make it worse, lack of sleep can lead to health problems and affect your emotions or mood.  Sleep is important for your everyday mental and emotional functioning.

It has been shown that people with insomnia or sleeping problems are more likely to develop psychiatric problems and other problems such as diabetes, obesity, and high blood pressure .

 

How Much Sleep is Enough?

Seven to eight hours of sleep is usually enough for the average adult. As you grow older, your sleep time is reduced.

Factors Affecting Your Sleep

Stress is one of the the biggest factors affecting your sleep.  Stress can be related to school, your job, monetary matters, relationships, or family. 

Alcohol, cigarettes, and coffee can also cause insomnia and sleeping problems. Shift work and jet lags, excessive noise will also cause sleep problems. Try to avoid these all when you sleep!

A good bed time routine will help to improve your sleep, get you in a regular sleeping pattern and solve your sleeplessness or insomnia.

Here are some tips for a good bed time routine to sleep better and regularly at night:

 

 

  1. Sleep at the same time! Make sure you follow a routine to sleep at the same time. This will help you wake up earlier and also to get up at the same time in morning even during weekends. You will find you need to use the alarm clock even less!
  2. Make sure you eat dinner at least 2-3 hours before you go to sleep. You will find you will have less acid reflux, and stomach heaviness. You will sleeping better and your belly and heart will thank you.
  3. Make sure you brush your teeth before sleeping, as it will get you feeling fresh and help you establish your bed time routine pattern.
  4. It is important to not exercise before sleeping.
  5. Don't go to the computer before you sleep. Pms, emails and other things will keep you thinking and staying up.
  6. Do not watch television before sleeping, instead listen to soft music to relax your mind.
  7. Make sure your bedroom is clean beforehand, as it will help you sleep better.
  8. Make your bed comfortable to sleep in, and always change the bed sheet at least once in a week.
  9. Also helpful, make sure you make your bed in the morning. It helps you wake up in the morning and also gets you ready for the nights sleep.
  10. At all costs, do not drink alcohol or smoke before you sleep.
  11. If you drink coffee, try to drink it as early as possible during the day. Also try to cut down on drinks near the end of the day.
